terminus Singapore - "The Fine City" 12th to 15 August On Wednesday afternoon we arrived in Singapore. Who does not understand the title, here's a hint (note the two meanings of "fine"):
(1 S $ = not quite 50 cents)
Did not informed me in a bit about Singapore and Taiwan have since met with Wikipedia on the somewhat bizarre and strict justice. In addition to exorbitant fines for all manner of obscure and sometimes ridiculous offense, there is also death penalty and corporal punishment, chewing gums are only limited available and the transportation of durian fruit in public transport, lying, and (according to Wikipedia) "unnatural sexual practices" are also prohibited. Here is a statement worth reading about corporal punishment:
"... are only affected men between the ages of 16 and 50, the age-independent can be punished with up to 24 lashes in a single pass on the bare buttocks . This so-called Caning is the delinquent a whipping-block tense and replaced by a specially trained judicial officers in a standard procedure with a long cane heavy blows and the purpose is to achieve maximum pain on minimal permanent damage. The cane used here is about 1.20 meters long and 13 millimeters thick, but is extremely elastic; The trainers are held to the floor at speeds of at least 160 km / h to. ... "
However, I must say that the article I think something is out of date. There are indeed many prohibitions and a lot of security measures, but I got there just as people at red cross the street and sex shops directly to the shopping street seen.
made that evening we all events only a walk through Little India look like in the area and something to eat.
Thursday morning we walked the same path again to give us the standing there to see the temple during the day, and from within.
We then searched for a long time, the Embassy of Laos - which was in fact moved to another building - had to search then break but, after he had arranged with a friend of Qizhen that we have lunch would meet at his home, where we had also hinfinden first.
With Hernan Guatemala from lunch we went, we did the thing with the Laos visa and then went sightseeing in the city. Such as "The Durian", a concert hall at the Singapore River:
DC near the Merlion, a mythical creature with a fish body and lion head. The name Singapore is indeed from Sanskrit, where "Singha" (as the brand of beer) "Lion" is, therefore, collectively, the "Lion City".
Town Hall:
And a war memorial:
On the way to another Hindu temple I have my Chinese medicine (中药 Zhongyao) purchased
The Hindu temple - where you would actually have to pay to be allowed to take pictures :-)
And 佛牙 寺 For Ya Si - Tooth Relic Temple. Here supposed to be a tooth of Buddha is kept. Also some photos were not allowed, so I could only shoot from a distance through the door, but the screen is the image of the relic transferred.
last we went through Chinatown and then back to the hostel.
We spent the evening in a bar in a mandatory "Singapore Sling" and card games.
Friday:
First we had to get to the embassy to pick up the visa from Qizhen. Then I had a date with Daniel, my German roommate of Tainan, a student in regular Singpur and lives. While waiting for the MRI I once had occasion, one of the funny clips security mitzufilmen: [may come later times, with the slow Internet is not currently upload]
Then we went shopping street and met there with Daniel, we spent a great Indian restaurant. First saw something chic from what ever made me speculate on prices. Until it turned out, that you can eat as much and as many numbers as you want.
Then we went back a little stroll through the city and came back a large Chinese temple. As it later turned out again to the "Toot Relic Temple", only other content of the page. But we were just right for "Monk Chanting"
Finally, I thanked him with a gold leaf on the Buddha for my as well as easily runny trip.
turned me later Daniel is still a real Austrians in Singapore: Eric Bock target with his "last Hot dog stand in front of the equator.
then had to return Daniel to the university and we went to a shopping center for coffee, cards to write and think about what could be done in Singapore yet.
But since my budget was already dressed up with holiday needs are relative and probably the most interesting places outside the center, we broke off the plans and went back just a little dinner and the hostel.
The last day:
We had then decided to use the morning together with Daniel still, we view the Arab quarter, because that was near and clear. We saw again a mosque (which also was empty inside):
Here, the classical Chinese style in this neighborhood:
And another (larger) Mosque :
... and as I said, inside are virtually nothing - only carpet
A real joke: what it's worth there reinzu "litter" if the water was still "littert" anyway totally locked and the fish did not look even more particularly alive
After about 1.5 hours we went back to the hostel, where I quickly packed up my things, checked out and made me the way to the MRT to the airport. When I took my MRI and then finally from Qizhen and Daniel. And from then on I was back on my own.
Well, and that's it!! OVER THE JOURNEY!
to the latest in the plane would then become a time to be melancholy, but somehow the feeling was then very different. What I was most overwhelmed, that I again felt like at that time at the airport when I first came to Taiwan. Somehow very different from the other flights and one does not feel as you flew into a Chinese province (which it practically is not). Taiwan Taiwan is easy! And since an island, a peculiar people, that one must love easily.
In any case, this holiday just something very special. It was practically especially something: adventure, relaxation, visiting friends, farewell, many new friends, sun, beach and sea, monsoon rains, party, culture and attractions, local food and drink, plane, bus, pick-up rides, various types of taxi. ......... as I said, anything!
But as I said I was a bit tired at the end of sightseeing, photography, and Rumreisen constant during the trip accumulated sleep deficit. And of course the anticipation came to Taiwan to find out but again waited News in Taipei on me: new city, new job, new colleagues and friends.
Bear in mind: from 17.8. to 30.9. I absolve an internship at the Trade Commission in the Chamber of Commerce in Taipei. In early October I'll come home final (to Austria).
hope my trip report was read to so reasonably varied and informative. From Taiwan is now something to be quiet, but I'll still keep up to date until I'm home again. Stay true to me ;-)
